Rasmus Hojlund’s time at Manchester United is all but over as he is set to be left out of their squad to face Arsenal.
A £72million signing in 2023, the youngster arrived on the back of impressive form with Atalanta, however he has only scored 26 goals in 95 appearances.
This summer, the Red Devils splashed out £74m on Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig and he will directly replace the Dane.
Hojlund had publicly insisted he wanted to stay at Old Trafford, adding he was willing to fight for his future.
“I think my plan is very clear and that is for me to stay and fight for my spot, whatever happens,” he said.
“Competition is fine with me, it sharpens me. I’m more than ready. I’m feeling sharp so I’m welcoming everything that comes.”
However, it’s now clear that manager Ruben Amorim will not be counting on the 22-year-old.
That’s despite him saying he was an option for his squad to face the Gunners in their season opener.
The Portuguese said: “He’s one more option, we will see. We are focused on this game and Rasmus is still our player.”
Earlier in the summer, he also said: Amorim said: “I’m really happy with Rasmus, but I don’t know what is going to happen until the end of the market.
“The important thing is that Rasmus is scoring goals. He’s connecting really well with the team. He’s improving.
“I don’t know what is going to happen until the market is closed. We suffered a lot because of the lack of goals last season.”
GettyHojlund scored against Bournemouth in pre-season but is still being turfed out[/caption]Hojlund does have interest in his services as an exit appears on the cards.
talkSPORT reported that they were willing to sell the player for £40m, that’s a £32m loss on their original outlay.
That’s also a £3m hit on his book value at the club, while the player has three years remaining on his current contract.
It’s also understood Hojlund himself is reluctantly ready to leave the club.
Currently it’s believed AC Milan prefer a loan deal with a buy option at the end of the season, while the player appears to have rejected a switch to Leipzig.
What went wrong for Rasmus Hojlund?
The Danish striker looked like a decent fit for Manchester United when he arrived but a goal drought immediately hampered him.
GettyAmorim has tried to back his forward but now it appears the Dane’s time is officially up[/caption]He failed to score in his first 14 Premier League matches, despite netting five Champions League goals in four appearances in the competition.
However, after a run of goals in six consecutive games he then suffered another two-month barren spell.
Similarly in his second season he also had several runs were goals were hard to come by, including a 21-game Premier League run.
Overall, he managed just 10 goals in 52 appearances, leading to Manchester United moving onto Sesko.
Who else have Manchester United signed?
As well as Sesko, the Red Devils have also added two more forwards to their squad.
They made a move on June 1 to snap up Matheus Cunha from Wolves.
After a 15-goal season in the Premier League last term, a deal set back the Red Devils £62.5m.
Meanwhile, they also added Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo to the mix.
He cost them £65m on the back of a 20-goal season in west London.
Manchester United have also signed left-back Diego Leon to bolster their squad.
