Ahead of tonight’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs, the Denver Broncos have placed starting center Luke Wattenberg on injured reserve and have made a handful of other moves on the roster.
Denver Broncos place starting center Luke Wattenberg on injured reserve
After getting a contract extension just a handful of weeks ago, starting center Luke Wattenberg is headed to injured reserve with a shoulder injury. He missed practice all week long, despite it being a short week, and was placed on injured reserve just hours before kickoff against the Chiefs here on Christmas Day.
On Tuesday, Wattenberg was spotted with his shoulder in a sling, and now he’ll miss the final two regular-season games and two playoff games, depending on how far the Broncos end up going.
It’s a big blow to Denver’s offensive line, but Alex Forsyth will now step in at the center position, where he’ll snap to Bo Nix, as he did in Nix’s first year at Oregon when the two were teammates.
The Broncos also waived running back Cody Schrader, which created an open roster spot.
To fill those gaps with Wattenberg’s IR stint and Schrader being waived, the Broncos promoted veteran tight end Marcedes Lewis and veteran guard Calvin Throckmorton to the active roster.
For tonight’s game, the Broncos also elevated linebacker Levelle Bailey and wide receiver Michael Bandy from the practice squad.
