THE TRUTH behind AGT’s big 20th anniversary performance has been revealed as the opening scene was taped ‘three different times’ and ‘tension’ on set nearly destroyed the shoot, a production insider claimed.
Despite appearing like it was one cohesive shot, the dazzling segment, which featured various acts from across the past 20 seasons of the show, was an edit of several different takes.
To celebrate the 20th anniversary of America’s Got Talent, producers wanted to put on a show and brought many of the fan-favorite former contestants together for one huge performance.
Despite airing on August 12, the opening performance was shot all the way back in March on a blistering day at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium, where AGT has filmed since 2006.
It featured electric past acts: Richard Goodall, The Pack Drumline, Los Osos High School, Avery Dixon, Sara James, Billy & Emily England, and Alan Silva.
According to a production source, they “had to reshoot it and film it three separate times, despite on the show, it coming off as one cohesive shot.
“Additionally, certain parts of it had to be re-filmed in the following days so it was not all recorded on the same day.”
The insider also revealed that tensions were already high on set that day, as there were filming delays, along with the venue’s air conditioning “not properly working” during a Los Angeles heatwave – leaving the hundreds of audience members frustrated.
“The taping was delayed about 2-3 hours. A big reason was this anniversary performance, it was a massive undertaking.
“It was a supersize number, so there’s a lot of moving parts. They had been doing rehearsals the whole night before, but still had issues the day of.

So yeah, a lot of tension on the set that day.”
The source added: “Everyday [on set] is different. The producers are just as anxious as everyone here.
“The crew is working as hard as possible, but delays are often out of their hands. It’s the powers that be that have control of this ship.
“Unfortunately, that day was just one of those days where a lot seemed to be going wrong and ended up in delays, but they still got the job done.”
