VICTOR, N.Y. — A second meeting will take place on Monday, Aug. 18, about the debate over whether to dissolve the Fishers Fire District.
The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Victor High School Auditorium on High Street. During the first meeting, which took place in July, over 100 residents and business owners attended, many expressing concerns.
The department covers 26 square miles of Victor, including Eastview Mall. As News10NBC has covered, the board of fire commissioners is seeking to dissolve the department because of financial sustainability.
Other fire departments would fill the void, but several departments have expressed concerns about taking on more responsibilities. Michael Koch, assistant chief of the Fishers Fire District, said in a statement that he fears a “devastating impact that will be imposed upon our community” if the department dissolves.
The dissolution goal date is set for Aug. 31, but the Board of Fire Commissioners has not made a final decision yet. If the dissolution does go through, the Town of Victor has requested the deadline be pushed back to the end of the year. News10NBC will continue to provide updates on the proposal.
In a statement from the Fishers Fire District Board of Commissioners, they say they are in a “strong financial position,” and the potential dissolution relates to future financial concerns.
