Danny Wuerffel has remained very closely connected to Florida well after his playing days, but much of his time is spent dedicated to non-profit and religious work, including with his own foundation.
So when a Facebook post surfaced claiming that Wuerffel had entered into a $45 million “groundbreaking endorsement deal” with the university, Wuerffel was sure to address the matter head-on. He posted a screenshot of the Facebook post to his X account with the label “Fake News”.
“This story is simply not true,” he wrote.
Wuerffel, a program legend, played for the Gators from 1993 to 1996 under Steve Spurrier, leading Florida to a national championship as a senior and winning the Heisman Trophy in the process. He was also a 2-time SEC Player of the Year.
After his college career, he played several seasons professionally before his retirement. He later became the executive director of Desire Street Ministries, an organization focused on revitalizing impoverished communities across the country.
Wuerffel also started the Wuerffel Foundation, which, according to its website, “exists to leverage the brand, experiences and relationships of Danny Wuerffel to honor and develop community service leaders.”
More than anything, this shows that not everything that’s posted on social media is true.
