McDonald’s new specialty “McDonaldland” menu item has officially launched, including a new limited-edition milkshake flavor.
The “Mt. McDonaldland Shake” is inspired by the “vibrant blue ‘lava’ and pink clouds of Mt. McDonaldland,” part of the McDonaldland fantasy world that entered pop culture in 1971.
The shake is described as having “hints of berry flavor” and “colorful, cloud-like pink Dairy Whipped Topping made with real cream” on the McDonald’s app.
“The Mt. McDonaldland Shake erupted from one of Grimace Island’s thick shake volcanoes,” according to the McDonalds app.
The nostalgic new meal aiming to take customers back to 1970 hit menus Tuesday, bringing a specialty shake, souvenirs, collectibles, limited-edition merchandise and more, the company announced.
The meal will come with one of six collectible tins featuring postcards, stickers and more, the release said, each inspired by legendary McDonald’s characters.
“Over the past few years we’ve seen how fans flock to our characters, everyone from Grimace to the Hamburglar, Jennifer “JJ Healan,” McDonald’s VP, U.S. marketing, brand, content & culture said in the release. “But many, especially the new generation, don’t know that’s just the tip of the iceberg. There’s an entire magical world of McDonaldland filled with characters, places and lore.”
“For over 20 years, McDonaldland was featured in everything from games to movies, and the characters developed a devoted fan following,” the announcement said.
The chain will also launch a line of limited-edition merchandise with Pacsun and Away beginning next month, the release said, with sweatpants, graphic tees, luggage tags and bag charms.
