Although it didn’t feel like football weather, Bears football was back in action on Sunday for the first preseason game against the Miami Dolphins.
Fans rushed to Soldier Field eager to get a look at the Bears under new leadership in first year Head Coach Ben Johnson.
“I’m excited for him,” said season ticket holder Kristin Bowser. “He brings a lot. We have high expectations and Chicago is tough so we’re ready.”
For some, it was the excitement of attending their first Bears game ever, while others have been thrilled about the hope of a new season year after year.
One young Bears fan named Tucker said he’s not ready to watch the Bears lose.
But win or lose, the fans keep coming back, even during the preseason when the starters aren’t in the game.
“We’re season ticket holders. We come every year. It’s awesome. We love it,” Bowser said. “The hype is always fun. We’re trying not to get drunk on the hype and hope but we’re excited and hoping for a great season.”
Earlier this week, Bears President and CEO Kevin Warren said the team plans to break ground for a brand new football stadium in Arlington Heights this fall.
Fans have expressed mixed feelings.
“This stadium is a staple. You know, the Bean, Sears Tower, now Willis… I don’t want to drive to Arlington, but I can come here,” said Chicago resident Jerrie Loggins.
Some fans are indifferent, knowing a new stadium could be more accessible, have better parking and might mean more affordable tickets.
Regardless of their stance on the Bears moving to Arlington Heights, the one thing Chicagoans always agree on is their disdain for the Green Bay Packers.
“Green Bay sucks,” one fan said. “Green Bay sucks.”
