Tennessee junior wide receiver Chris Brazzell was arrested on Friday after police found he was driving with a suspended license and for speeding, according to a Knoxville police report that was obtained by Knox News.
Brazzell is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 20.
“We are aware of the traffic stop involving Chris Brazzell II and have no further comment at this time,” a Tennessee spokesperson told Knox News on Sunday.
Losing Brazzell for any amount of time because of this incident would be a big blow for Tennessee, with Brazzell being the Volunteers’ top returning receiver. The Midland, Texas, native had 29 catches for 333 yards and 2 touchdowns in 2024, helping Tennessee reach the College Football Playoff. Brazzell showed a flair for the dramatic, too, catching the winning touchdown pass in the 4th quarter of a victory over Alabama.
But 2025 hasn’t gone according to plan for Brazzell, with Friday’s arrest being the latest mishap. Brazzell also hasn’t been a full participant in fall camp practice because he’s dealing with an unspecified injury.
Now, with the injury combined with this off-field incident, Brazzell’s status going forward as the season opener nears is up in the air.
Brazzell is a redshirt junior who transferred from Tulane in 2024, so last season was Brazzell’s first in Knoxville.
