SEC Network analyst Chris Doering believes Oklahoma may be primed for a huge 2025 season.
The Sooners floundered last year in their first SEC season. However, coach Brent Venables brought in the tandem of quarterback John Mateer and offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle this offseason. Despite a tough schedule, Doering thinks Mateer and Arbuckle can power OU to a deep run this season.
“I told you earlier that Oklahoma has the most difficult schedule. They’re also the dark horse,” Doering said. “They’ve built a roster that’s going to handle that difficult schedule. You look at John Mateer, that combo of bringing in Ben Arbuckle and John Mateer together, and you throw Jaydn Ott in there at the running back position … Defensively, Brent Venables is taking over the play-calling responsibilities again, which I actually like.
“I think this team is built to make a run this year. They could be in the College Football Playoff when it’s all said and done.”
