SPENCERPORT, N.Y. — Spencerport’s Barbecue Bash Quarters marathon took place on Sunday at the Spencerport Deport & Canal Museum.
The event included a total of about 150 runners, spectators, and volunteers. People were racing along the Erie Canal Heritage Trail and village streets. Runners were able to choose how many laps they wanted to do during the race.
“We have some amazing races in the Monroe County area, most of them take place in Rochester proper, or points east. We have some races on the west side, but not a whole lot. So, I wanted to do something to draw people out from the other parts of the county, so that they can see what’s out on the west side,” said Vickey Beaver, owner of Obatron Productions.
After the race, there was a barbecue bar, coupons for the Union Street Coffee House, and on-site recovery services.
The event collected non-perishable goods, along with hygienic items for the Spencerport Ecumenical Food Shelf and money donated for Cartons for Christmas. “We offer people an opportunity when they’re signing up to provide a donation to Cartons for Christmas, which, it helps people who are struggling to have an holiday meal, not an everyday meal,” said Beaver.
