ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Some local kids are exploring where their food comes from at a new summer camp.
The “Growing Good Summer Enrichment Program” has been taking place at the Foodlink Community Farm since July 7.
The program is a collaboration with Rochester Ecology Partners, offering hands-on learning through outdoor exploration.
On Aug. 6, young campers learned about pollinators in beekeeping suits.
“Just this opportunity to get young people outside and doing these things we remember as kids running around looking for bugs, and seeing what sort of things are growing in the garden. We are really excited we can offer this opportunity,” said Chris Widmaier, executive director of the Rochester Ecology Partners.
The camp aims to show kids how locally grown food contributes to a healthier community. Last school year, Foodlink prepared more than two million healthy meals for students.
