The U.S. have gone with what is likely their strongest possible team, with individual 100 free finalists Jack Alexy, Patrick Sammon and Torri Huske joined by Kate Douglass, who split 52.04 and 51.90 in heats and then finals of the women’s 4×100 free. The World record of 3:18.83 could well be in play, but the main aim is to win the USA’s first relay gold of the meet.

France, NAB and Italy in lanes 5, 6, and 7 will be the main contenders fighting for the remaining two spots on the podium, but the Netherlands have a wicked back end of Milou van Wijk and Marrit Steenbergen, who took 4th and 1st in the women’s 100 free. All four of those nations have the female national record holder in their quartet, with all except Italy’s Sara Curtis on the anchor leg.

Canada bring in Josh Liendo and Taylor Ruck, who combined to help them win bronze in the mixed medley, and could be a threat from lane 8, while Germany and Spain return identical quartets to this morning.

NAB were the team to make the most changes, swapping out three of their four swimmers, while Thomas Ceccon, Italy’s fastest split on the men’s 4×100 free relay, is not on the team as he focuses on the 100 fly tonight. He is the 5th seed in that event after setting a huge new best and Italian Record of 50.42.

Each swimmers fastest split so far is noted here, with ‘*’ denoting a flat start time if faster or no split time has been recorded for them yet.
