Everything you need to know about Saturday’s total solar eclipse in Egypt

NASA’s astronomical records show that a total solar eclipse is scheduled to occur on Saturday.

The moon’s shadow will pass over parts of Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East tomorrow, creating a rare celestial phenomenon not seen in decades, according to the Times of India.

This total solar eclipse is called the “eclipse of the century” because it will witness the longest period of darkness on Earth in the 21st century.

The eclipse will last for six minutes and 22 seconds, the longest since 1991.

Will the solar eclipse be visible in Egypt?

The solar eclipse will be visible along a narrow path about 258 kilometers (160 miles) wide, covering an area of 15,227 kilometers (9,462 miles) of Earth’s surface. The eclipse will pass over parts of 11 countries, including Spain, Gibraltar, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, Sudan, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, and Somalia.

Despite its significance, this event will only affect a small portion of the planet. Those within this path will experience the darkening of the sky during daylight, although experts indicate that it will appear more like a 360-degree twilight.

A partial solar eclipse will also be visible across most of Africa, Europe, and South Asia. North America and other parts of the world will not experience any eclipse activity.

What is a total solar eclipse?

A total solar eclipse occurs when the moon moves directly between the sun and Earth, completely covering it. This blocks sunlight from reaching Earth for a short period, turning day into total darkness during the eclipse.

How does a total solar eclipse occur?

The Moon casts its shadow on Earth. People standing in the path of the Moon’s shadow will see the Sun completely obscured. During this time, you may be able to see the Sun’s outer atmosphere, called the corona, which is normally hidden by the Sun’s bright light. A total solar eclipse usually lasts only few minutes and can only be seen from a narrow strip of Earth.

When is the next solar eclipse of 2025?

The next solar eclipse in 2025 is scheduled to occur on September 21. It should be noted that it will be a partial eclipse, where the moon will partially cover the sun’s disk. As a result, the sun will appear as if part of it has been removed, forming a crescent.
