Whitney Stortz from Grand Junction, Colorado, has committed to swim and study at Drury University beginning next fall. At the time of her commitment, Stortz wrote on social media:
“I am beyond excited to announce my commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Drury University! I would like to thank my friends, family, teammates, and coaches for their endless support throughout my swimming career as well as Coach Reynolds and Coach Oleksiak for this opportunity. I cannot wait to be apart of the team! GO PANTHERS ”
Stortz attended Grand Junction High School and swam for the girls’ varsity swimming and diving team. She swims year-round with Maverick Aquatics.
Earlier this year, USA Swimming wrote a story about Stortz and her struggles with tonic clonic seizures in a feature for Women’s History Month.
Over the last year or so, she has made huge improvements in all her events. Last December, she dropped 3.8 seconds in the 100 fly, half a second in the 100 free, and half a second in the 50 free, at the Colorado Swimming Pioneer Open.
In January, she took 3.6 seconds off her 200 free time and improved her seed time by 46.2 seconds in the 500 free at the MAValanche Invitational. Then, in March, she went to Four Corners Spring Sectionals in Austin and dropped another tenth in the 50 free, .35 in the 100 free, and 1.4 seconds in the 200 free.

50 free – 23.91 100 free – 51.91 200 free – 1:54.27 100 fly – 58.38Stortz will suit up for the Panthers with a very international class of swimmers, including Ella Gunnarsson, Elvira Lonnberg Flores, Giovanna Amaro Cruz Morganti, Kiersten Elliott, Petra Baumane, and Sophia Deane.
Drury won the women’s title at the 2025 Great Lakes Valley Conference Championships. Stortz’s best times would have scored in the ‘B’ finals of the 50 free, 100 free, and 200 free, and the ‘C’ final of the 100 fly.
