DENVER (KDVR) -- Colorado Parks and Wildlife is asking members of the public to provide input to help with the development of a formal beaver conservation and management strategy.
CPW said Wednesday that it is developing the strategy in response to growing interest in using beavers "as a natural tool for ecological restoration."
Coloradans can provide input online during a public scoping period that will be open through Aug. 31, according to the agency.
"Feedback shared during the scoping period will be considered during development of the draft Beaver Conservation and Management Strategy," CPW said.
Public input on the developed draft strategy will open in the fall, according to CPW, which said the strategy will explore topics such as beaver harvest regulations, habitat restoration and ecological benefits, techniques for coexistence and translocation policies and considerations.

"Beavers are a keystone species, meaning they have a disproportionately large influence on the ecosystems they inhabit," the agency said.
