15 businesses targeted in overnight burglaries, north suburban police say

Police in Gurnee were investigating a “coordinated” burglary spree targeting 15 businesses in the northern suburb, authorities said.

The first incident was reported before 4 a.m., when officers responded to a business in the 400 block of Riverside Drive after multiple burglary alarms were triggered, Gurnee police said in a news release. Officers arrived at the scene and found the front windows of several businesses had been shattered.

    Through the course of the morning, police were informed of additional incidents.

    A preliminary investigation found multiple suspects were involved in what law enforcement called a “coordinated effort affecting multiple locations.” In total, 15 businesses across the city were burglarized, police stated.

    Cash registers were taken from some businesses, police stated. However, others didn’t report any missing items.

    Authorities obtained surveillance footage, which showed several individuals wearing masks and gloves breaking the front windows of the businesses, according to police. The suspects fled the scene before police arrived.
