Jason Marsden revealed that a spinoff of the beloved sitcom Step by Step was previously considered, and he teased what the show would have been about nearly 30 years after the finale.
Marsden, 50, appeared on the show as Rich Halke in the sitcom's final two seasons. He was first introduced in season 5 as the best friend of J.T. (Brandon Call), though he later fell for Dana (Staci Keanan).
The actor took to Instagram on Wednesday, July 30, to reflect on the legacy of the show by sharing photos of fan mail he's received of the years. "Here’s some mail from Germany and France. Someone really hot for signed Rich/Dana portraits. Perhaps these will be sent to Stacy next. Or shoot - I coulda saved them some postage by forwarding myself??! It’s ok, best not establish myself as an autograph runner," he jokingly wrote in the caption.
While Marsden didn't join the show until the final seasons, he recalled his co-stars treating him "like I had been there since the beginning."

"The Rich and Dana photos were from our season 7 pre-season network photo shoot. Our characters had already been established as an 'item' and they leaned into it for promo purposes. There was even a discussion of a Rich/Dana spin off!!" he revealed.
Marsden then poked fun at the concept never coming to fruition by adding, "A short discussion apparently. lol."

Shortly after Marsden shared the post, several fans rushed to the comments section to reminisce about the show. "Rich and Dana getting together on Step by Step is my favorite episode," one person commented, while another wrote, "I loved those episodes.
