ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Nearly 100 employees will be out of a job as a manufacturing facility announces it’s closure in Rochester.
Upstate Niagara Cooperative (UNC Dairy), one of the largest dairy cooperatives in the U.S., announced it’s set to close it’s manufacturing facility in Rochester by the end of the year. The company says in part:
“The decision to close the Rochester plant was difficult but necessary for the long-term sustainability of the company, and driven by evolving market trends, including declining demand for fresh fluid milk.”
A total of 98 employees will be affected. UNC Dairy says it’s working with those employees to support them through the closure with outplacement assistance and consideration for other openings within the company.
The statement from UNC Dairy also said:
“Production from the Rochester facility will be absorbed by other UNC Dairy plants to minimize disruptionto local Rochester customers, as the cooperative remains committed to providing high-quality productsacross Western New York and beyond. UNC Dairy’s truck maintenance program is also changing duringthis transition period so it can reduce costs and improve fleet performance. A trusted third party will takeover garage operations in Rochester and Syracuse.”
