Shohei Ohtani reveals shock reason for being forced to leave MLB game early in Los Angeles Dodgers pitching outing

Shohei Ohtani exited his most recent start early due to a potential injury.

In a matchup against the Cincinnati Reds, Ohtani left his start early without recording an out in the fourth inning.

Ohtani was seen throwing multiple errant pitches before the Dodgers’ medical staff came out to remove him from the game.

“I felt it in the first inning and just tried to work around it and I was able to do it up until the third, and it didn’t quite work out in the fourth,” Ohtani said through an interpreter.

Manager Dave Roberts said he immediately noticed something was wrong.

“I just saw a funky throw,” he said.

“The follow-through just didn’t look right… He said it was his hip.

“I talked to him, and he said it was the humidity.”

The Dodgers medical staff confirmed nothing was wrong with Ohtani’s arm, rather he was suffering from cramps.

Both Ohtani and Roberts attributed the issue to temperatures close to 90 degrees.

Even though he was removed from the mound, Ohtani remained in the game as the designated hitter.

He threw 51 pitches , gave up two runs on five hits, struck out four, and walked two over three-plus innings.

It was his longest outing since returning from Tommy John surgery.

“A good thing about today’s outing is my pitch count was where I wanted it to be,” Ohtani said.

“I think this is a step forward in a sense.”

Ohtani also admitted that he didn’t feel great before the start, and guessed it could have affected his outing.
