2025 BNBlogathon Check-In: Hour 32

I am currently blogging – here, on Facebook, on X (BN and my personal), and on Bluesky (BN and my personal) – for 40 hours straight, past MLB’s July 31 Trade Deadline until 9pm CT, thanks to your generous donations to Make-A-Wish. I’ll be doing recaps on the process throughout the day(s), but you’ll also see normal posting (Bullets, news, Pre-Gamin’, EBS, etc.), as well as a significant uptick in rumor/trade posts.

Total Posts So Far:

Total Raised for Make-A-Wish Illinois So Far This Year:

$20,279 (woo hoo! passed the 20K mark! Absolutely incredible generosity)

News and Rumors Since the Last Check-In:

Well, sir, things started popping off again. Mason Miller and JP Sears went to the Padres for a massive trade package, and it’s possible the Padres now shop Dylan Cease and Robert Suarez. Kyle Finnegan got dealt to the Tigers. The outfield market started moving.

And of course there were the rumors that MacKenzie Gore may not be a pipe dream for the Cubs, and – unrelated? – the Cubs have so far declined to include Moises Ballesteros in any trade talks.

Most Interesting Tidbit Since the Last Recap:

For baseball, it’s obviously the Padres adding Mason Miller to their already-impressive bullpen group. But for the Cubs, it’s obviously the possibility, however small, that they could actually get a trade done for MacKenzie Gore.

Current Thoughts About the Chicago Cubs’ Trade Deadline Strategy/Execution:

Just don’t let yourself get shutout today. I know that part of the reason for picking up Mike Soroka and Andrew Kittredge last night was just in case today didn’t shake out the way the Cubs wanted … but it’s not like that’s a good outcome. I don’t mind them taking this thing up to the wire to try to get the best deal possible, but, hey, don’t overplay your hand.

    Current Tiredness Level:

It’s down to a 3 out of 10. I’m not super tired at the moment. What always happens about this time is that I start to feel sick instead.

    Current Beverage/Stimulant of Choice:

Taking a break to try to settle my stomach, but also I was really hungry so I got some lunch. Can you be sick to your stomach and also hungry at the same time? You can if you’ve been up since 5am yesterday morning and mostly have a stomach full of coffee and soda remnants.

    Current Emotional Status:

Eager is probably the word. I’m eager for the Cubs to get on to today’s moves so I have some things to dig into. Feels like I need it.

Random Thought Passing Through My Mind:

I keep butting up against what day it is. I know it’s the Trade Deadline Day, but it doesn’t feel like a day after yesterday to me. It all just feels like one big long blur, and if you asked me to say quickly whether I did X activity on Wednesday or Thursday, I wouldn’t be able to do it. I’d need a moment.
