I am currently blogging – here, on Facebook, on X (BN and my personal), and on Bluesky (BN and my personal) – for 40 hours straight, past MLB’s July 31 Trade Deadline until 9pm CT, thanks to your generous donations to Make-A-Wish. I’ll be doing recaps on the process throughout the day(s), but you’ll also see normal posting (Bullets, news, Pre-Gamin’, EBS, etc.), as well as a significant uptick in rumor/trade posts.

News and Rumors Since the Last Check-In:
Bupkis. The previous period was so busy that it might’ve slowed anyway. But the ‘ole 2am to 6am slot is never a rumpus room of rumors.
Most Interesting Tidbit Since the Last Recap:
Well, it’s really the only thing: the Pirates reportedly will hang onto Mitch Keller. My guess is that the offers just haven’t been particularly strong.
Current Thoughts About the Chicago Cubs’ Trade Deadline Strategy/Execution:
Unchanged from the last up
Bit of a “we’ll see” situation, isn’t it? The Soroka trade and the Kittredge trade are both totally fine, but they would make a lot more sense – or be a lot more compelling – as parts of a slightly larger set of moves. If the Cubs were just getting these guys today to make sure they had at least SOMETHING in place, and maybe bought a little leverage for their talks on the bigger targets tomorrow? Then I like it a lot.
Current Tiredness Level:
It’s a 9 out of 10. The sun is starting to peek out and I’m hoping that helps me turn the corner. Usually I’m good to go by 5am or so, with the worst of the tiredness having come from 3 to 5. This time, I felt great at 3. Now? Not so much.
Current Beverage/Stimulant of Choice:
Definitely coffee o’clock.
Well, and I also had this:

— Bleacher Nation (@BleacherNation) July 31, 2025Current Emotional Status:
A little sad after seeing this:
José Buttó emotionally reacts to being traded in the bullpen.Buttó has been with the Mets his entire professional career since he signed with the team as a 19-year-old. pic.twitter.com/Zslwj5cUS6
— Just Mets (@just_mets) July 30, 2025Evokes memories of Wilmer Flores, also then a Met, finding out on the field that he was being traded and getting visibly emotional. That’s basically the reason MLB moved the schedule permanently so that there are no games being played in the afternoon on Trade Deadline Day.
Random Thought Passing Through My Mind:
The brain fog isn’t lifting as well as I feel like it usually does around this time. I took a shower, got dressed in fresh clothes, did my morning routine, all that stuff. Typically, it makes me feel a bit like I just had a bad night sleep but I’m otherwise ready for the day. Not working this time. In addition to the tiredness, I’m really slow in my thought processes.
