CAIRO, July 31 (MENA) – Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigration Badr Abdelatty stressed the necessity of finding a political horizon for implementing the two-state solution and establishing an independent Palestinian state along the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem (Al Quds) as its capital.
He made the remarks during a meeting in Washington with Senator Ted Cruz.
The meeting tackled the Egypt-US relations and ways to strengthen the existing strategic partnership, including bolstering cooperation in security and counterterrorism, as well as consultations on several regional issues of common interest.
Regarding the developments in Gaza, Minister Abdelatty reviewed Egypt’s ongoing efforts to broker a Palestinian-Israeli agreement on ceasing fire and exchanging hostages and prisoners, in coordination with Qatar and the US.
He stressed the necessity for the continued acceleration of humanitarian aid flow into the enclave to alleviate the suffering of Palestinian civilians.
The talks also touched on recent developments in regional hotspots, including Sudan, Yemen, Syria, and Lebanon.
Abdelatty highlighted the importance of ensuring security of navigation in the Red Sea which is a vital strategic artery for global trade.
On the Egyptian water security file, he reiterated Egypt’s position insisting on adherence to international law regarding shared water resources.
He underlined the need for cooperation based on consensus and mutual benefit to serve the interests of all Nile Basin countries.
He stressed rejection of unilateral actions that violate international law.
He confirmed that Egypt will take all possible measures under international law to protect its water security.
The minister reaffirmed Egypt’s firm stand calling for de-escalation in the Middle East, rejecting military solutions to conflicts.
Abdelatty stressed the importance of pursuing diplomatic channels concerning the Iranian nuclear program to promote regional and international security and stability. (MENA)
