It’s never too early to prepare for your fantasy football draft, and that’s exactly what we’re here to do. Using the DraftHero Mock Draft Simulator from 4for4, I ran a 12-team ESPN mock draft to get a feel for current player values and early trends as we look ahead to the 2025 fantasy season.

Below, we’ll walk through the mock round-by-round, spotlighting the biggest reaches and falls, and break down some of the most actionable takeaways.

Below is a breakdown of my risers, fallers, and strategic takeaways after each chunk of rounds. Standard ESPN roster settings were used (1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 TE, 1 FLEX, 1 K, 1 D/ST, 6 BN).

Fantasy Football ESPN Mock Draft: Rounds 1-4

Biggest Reach: Josh Allen, QB, Buffalo Bills (Round 2, Pick 7)Josh Allen’s recent resume speaks for itself. Over the past four seasons, he has finished QB2, QB1, QB2, and QB1 in total fantasy points. He’s done it with a rotating cast of weapons, and despite losing Stefon Diggs prior to 2024, Allen’s current supporting crew looks deep and functional: Khalil Shakir, Keon Coleman, Curtis Samuel, Dalton Kincaid, and Dawson Knox form a solid core.

Add in new additions Joshua Palmer and Elijah Moore, and the offense still projects as pass-heavy. Allen should be a locked-in top-three option at the position once again, but Round 2 is steep in full PPR unless your league heavily rewards QB scoring.

Biggest Fall: Garrett Wilson, WR, New York Jets (Round 4, Pick 2)Garrett Wilson finally delivered the WR1 breakout we’ve all been waiting for, finishing as the WR10 in total points after a WR30 campaign in 2023. Even more impressively, he did it with limited help from Aaron Rodgers, who was clearly not at full strength.

Wilson drew 157 targets, turned them into 96 receptions, 1,242 yards, and 7 touchdowns, and showed elite separation ability week after week. Reception Perception’s Matt Harmon called Wilson “one of the best separators in the NFL,” and believes new OC Tanner Engstrand will “profoundly” upgrade his deployment. If Justin Fields can rekindle the same magic he had with DJ Moore in Chicago, Wilson could take another leap—and that makes his fall to the top of Round 4 surprising.

    ESPN Mock Draft: Rounds 5-8

TakeawaysThe quarterback run is no longer waiting until the late rounds. Allen was off the board by Round 2, and Jayden Daniels, Patrick Mahomes, and Joe Burrow all followed before the start of Round 5. If you’re targeting an elite QB in PPR formats, you’ll have to strike early.

That said, fantasy points at the quarterback position remain tightly bunched. If you’re comfortable passing on the high-ceiling options, there’s still decent value in pivoting toward deeper running back and wide receiver pools while others chase QB upside. The wide receiver tiers in this range remain dense with WR2/WR3 candidates—drafting two or three of them here could give you a weekly FLEX edge.

    ESPN Mock Draft: Rounds 9-11

Biggest Reach: Dallas Goedert, TE, Philadelphia Eagles (Round 9, Pick 12)Goedert turns 30 this season and has missed 15 games over the last three years. That’s not a death sentence for a tight end, but it does cloud his reliability. The upside case? Goedert has quietly remained one of the most efficient tight ends in football.

He ranked 2nd in yards per route run and 6th in yards after catch per reception last year. He’s excited about new OC Kevin Patullo’s vision for him, saying, “What he sees in me in different ways that he’s going to get me the ball I’m really excited for.” If that usage bump actually comes, Goedert could return to low-end TE1 territory, but drafters in this mock were aggressive relative to his recent ADP.

    ESPN Mock Draft: Rounds 12-14

TakeawaysYour league settings will dictate whether you’re required to leave your draft with a kicker and a defense. In this build, I made sure to grab both to reflect what a full roster might look like on ESPN. As a general rule, I prefer to take my kicker and defense in the final two rounds unless there’s an obvious tier-break mid-draft.

Among my favorite late-round defenses to target this season are the 49ers, Chargers, Rams, Chiefs, and Giants. All five units have solid early-season schedules, making them viable streamers in Week 1 even if you plan to churn at the position.

Biggest Fall: Tank Bigsby, RB, Jacksonville Jaguars (Round 13, Pick 3)Bigsby’s 2024 was all over the place. He started slow behind Travis Etienne but came alive midseason, flashing tackle-breaking ability and patience through the hole. He posted 129 yards and two scores against Indianapolis with Etienne active, then followed with 118 yards and two more touchdowns against the Patriots when Etienne was sidelined. Bigsby ultimately averaged 4.6 YPC, while Etienne hovered at 3.7.

Add in rookie Bhayshul Tuten—an explosive athlete who tested in the 90th percentile across multiple metrics—and the Jags backfield is once again up for grabs. If Bigsby claims early-down and goal-line work, he’s a classic Zero RB target with FLEX value and RB2 upside in plus matchups.

    ESPN Mock Draft FAQs

Is this a full-PPR fantasy football mock draft?Yes. This mock was completed using full-PPR scoring settings and default ESPN roster configuration.

Which tool was used for this ESPN mock draft? The mock draft was completed using 4for4’s DraftHero, a powerful tool for building mocks and generating optimized draft strategies.

How early are quarterbacks being drafted in 2025 fantasy football?Much earlier than in previous years. In this draft, Josh Allen was selected in the second round, followed closely by Jackson, Daniels, and Hurts. Fantasy managers should be prepared to adjust their strategy accordingly.

Why did Garrett Wilson fall so far?Unclear, but his WR10 finish in 2024 and new offensive scheme suggest he should be drafted earlier than Round 4 in most PPR formats.

What about the tight end market?Tight end is a difficult position to navigate in 2025. There’s upside in waiting until the double-digit rounds, but reaching for upside (like Goedert or Henry) in Rounds 9–11 is a viable strategy too.
