Suwayda Governor Mustafa al-Bakour stated that the humanitarian response to the southern region is ongoing. He said that aid convoys have delivered 96 tons of flour, 85,000 liters of diesel fuel for hospitals, bakeries, and the Telecommunications Corporation, surgical equipment and supplies sufficient for 400 operations, as well as medications, medical consumables, nutritional items, and relief assistance.
“Aid and humanitarian convoys enter Suwayda governorate daily and normally via Bosra al-Sham in rural Daraa. There are no obstacles to the movement of traffic, and the road is open for humanitarian organizations to enter the governorate,” the governor said.
In an interview with the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) on the evening of Sunday, 27 July, the governor confirmed that technical and service teams are simultaneously working at full capacity to rehabilitate damaged sections of the road and ensure a return to normal movement throughout the governorate. This is being done in coordination with relevant entities to ensure the safety of citizens and facilitate their secure transportation.
He clarified that fuel is being brought into Suwayda daily by the Ministry of Energy.
A new aid convoy is scheduled to enter tomorrow, containing 200 tons of flour and various relief supplies, according to Bakour.
The governor’s comments come amid online debate about an alleged siege on Suwayda city, claims of aid blockage, and service interruptions.
Prior Coordination
In an interview with the state-run channel al-Ikhbariyah Syria on Sunday, Bakour explained that aid entering Suwayda governorate does so through the Syrian Arab Red Crescent in coordination with other organizations. He emphasized that delegations and organizations coordinate in advance with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates.
“The Syrian government is exerting efforts to bring aid into Suwayda,” the governor said, describing the situation in Suwayda after recent events as “catastrophic.” He stated that coordination is underway with local departments in Suwayda to facilitate aid entry.
Technical and service teams, along with the electricity company, continue working intensively to rehabilitate affected areas.
He expressed optimism that the situation in Suwayda would stabilize, which would help people return to their homes.
1,638 People Evacuated
On 25 July, 210 individuals from the Bedouin tribes in Suwayda governorate left for Daraa via the Bosra al-Sham crossing, as part of the fifth convoy under the Suwayda ceasefire agreement.
Enab Baladi’s correspondent in Daraa reported that the convoy included around 20 patients and foreign nationals, though their nationalities were not disclosed.
With this convoy, the total number of evacuees from Suwayda across five convoys has reached 1,638 people.
The Syrian Arab Red Crescent and several UN agencies announced on 26 July the dispatch of a humanitarian aid convoy from Damascus to Daraa governorate to support relief efforts for affected families.
Omar al-Malki, Director of the Media and Communications Unit at the Syrian Arab Red Crescent, said the convoy consisted of 17 trucks carrying canned food, medical consumables, drinking water, baby diapers, and items specifically for newly arrived families and host communities, according to SANA.
Suwayda governorate continues to face a humanitarian crisis following violence and violations committed by both government forces and armed tribal factions, as well as local militias loyal to the spiritual leader of the Druze community, Sheikh Hikmat al-Hijri.
The events began after mutual abductions between Bedouin tribes in Suwayda and Druze-affiliated local factions. This was followed by intervention from the Syrian government, which encountered resistance and Israeli shelling—further complicating the situation.
According to the latest figures from the Syrian Network for Human Rights, at least 814 Syrians have been killed in Suwayda since tensions began on 13 July, including 34 women, 20 children, six medical personnel, and two media workers.
