Nearly 20 years after The Devil Wears Prada hit theaters, a follow-up film with returning stars is now in production.
After Meryl Streep was spotted last week in full Miranda Priestly mode filming scenes in New York City, the Oscar-winner, 76, was seen again Monday shooting alongside another standout performer from the 2006 classic: Stanley Tucci.
Streep, who plays the fictional Runway magazine editor, and Tucci, 64, who portrays the Runway art director, were seen strutting together — in character — on the sunny NYC streets, looking as dapper as they did in the original film.
And it wouldn't be a Devil Wears Prada sequel without Miranda's protégé, Andrea "Andy" Sachs — played by Anne Hathaway, of course. The Oscar winner, 42, was also out in midtown Manhattan during Monday's production shoot wearing several designer looks, according to Just Jared. She had posted a photo to Instagram of herself dressed as Andy on July 21.
The first film followed Andy, an aspiring journalist who finds herself working as a junior assistant for Miranda, the editor-in-chief of a magazine reminiscent of Vogue. The movie is based on Lauren Weisberger’s novel, which is inspired by her time working for Anna Wintour, as it turns out. The film grossed more than $326 million worldwide, so a sequel was always something in the cards — even if it was two decades in the making.
According to Variety, the next chapter reportedly follows Priestly as she navigates her career amid the decline of traditional magazine publishing. She will also face off against her former first assistant Emily Charlton (Emily Blunt, who was Golden Globe-nominated for the performance), now a high-powered executive for a luxury group with advertising dollars that Priestly desperately needs.
The scheduled release date for The Devil Wears Prada 2 is May 1, 2026. In addition to the sequel's high-profile returning stars, new additions to the cast include Lucy Liu, Justin Theroux, Rachel Bloom, B.J. Novak, Simone Ashley and Pauline Chalamet.
