Tuesday, July 29 marks a major milestone for The Beatles - the 60th anniversary of their musical-comedy-adventure film Help!
The film, which featured Paul McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr starring as themselves, premiered on July 29, 1965 in the U.K. On August 11 of that year, Help! premiered in the United States.
The movie follows The Beatles as they are pursued by a cult that practices human sacrifice. The cult uses a ring for their sacrifices, which comes into Ringo's possession after it was sent to him by a fan. Not knowing what it was, Ringo unknowingly puts on the sacred ring, which becomes stuck on his finger and unable to be taken off.
The band is chased around England, the Swiss Alps, and the Bahamas as they try to evade the cult. Along the way, the film features performances of classic Beatles' songs including Help!, Ticket to Ride, and You've Got to Hide Your Love Away.
The film concludes with Ringo being captured by the cult. At the end of the movie, when Ringo is about to be sacrificed on the beach, the ring suddenly comes off. He puts the ring on the cult leader's finger, who is then chased by his own followers as the song Help! plays.
