VICTOR, N.Y. — The Indigenous Music & Arts Festival, which celebrated culture, creativity, and connection, took place this weekend at the Ganondagan Historic Site on County Road 41 in Victor.
The annual festival showcased Haudenosaunee cultures through dance, music, storytelling, and traditional craft demonstrations. There was also an Indigenous Arts Market, children’s activities, raffles, guided trail walks, gallery tours, and Indigenous food.
“I want people to know that we are alive and well in the present. When they come to Ganondagan, they are going to meet people who come from the nations that once existed here on top of the hill, the Seneca people,” said Peter Jemison, former historic site manager at Ganondagan State Historic Site. “We call ourselves in our own language, Onöndowa’ga, people of the great Hill.”
