As you might expect, one of the biggest attractions has been American food. The video opens with Aussie fan Nathan Ranclaud filming the exterior of a Popeyes restaurant, immediately calling it “the most incredible chicken you’ve ever seen.” As he describes his order, Ranclaud is struck by the value and presentation.
“So you get two pieces of crunchy fried chicken, a biscuit, chips and the most beautiful coleslaw I’ve ever had in my life,” he says while noting that the coleslaw has a slight spice with a hint of mustard.
What really captured Ranclaud’s attention, however, was the price. “And then all of that—I’m not making this up—is $6,” he says, zooming the camera in on a display showing the meal deal.
“How does this business even work? How is it even open?” Ranclaud asks. “And there’s a drink machine—of course unlimited refills—it’s like a touchscreen…” he says before interrupting himself. “There must be 50 different options!”
The video ends with Ranclaud addressing Popeyes directly: “Why is Popeyes chicken not in Australia? Popeyes, if you came here, you would own this country.”

Why Isn't Popeyes in Australia?
Over the years, Popeyes has mostly stayed out of Australia, due in part to the chicken market already being dominated by long-time favorites like KFC, Red Rooster and Oporto. And while that doesn’t mean the popular chicken chain wouldn’t thrive, the limited space makes expansion more difficult.
That said, Australia has not always been off the table. As far back as 2000, Popeyes announced plans to develop 35 restaurants across the country through a franchise agreement, marking one of the first attempts to enter the market. More recently, it’s been reported that parent company Restaurant Brands International is exploring the idea of expansion again, but there has yet to be an update since 2024.
Oh to be able to experience the joy of Popeyes for the first time again. As for Ranclaud’s new affinity for the chicken chain, we can only hope Popeyes catches wind of his video so he and his fellow Australians can truly experience what it means to “love that chicken from Popeyes.”
