Del Taco is known for occasionally adding some novel items to its menu, but this latest addition may be the chain’s strangest offering yet.
Food blogger Nate Eatz took to Facebook and Instagram to highlight the new fried pickle taco, now available through July 31 at the chain’s participating locations in Southern California.

“So, Del Taco just came out with a new pickle taco for $1.99 and it will only be available for two weeks,” the video narration says,” as images of the new fried pickle taco are shown. “It comes on a soft and chewy flour tortilla smothered in a creamy ranch and you can see here that pickle is fried to perfection. The pickle is crispy on the outside and when you take a bite, it just explodes with pickle juice.”
At the end of the clip, Nathan weighs in.
“A pickle taco is one of the last things I expected Del Taco to come out with, but it is shockingly good. You guys gotta come try it.”
Nathan’s followers on Facebook had a mixed reaction to the clip.
“Only pregnant women will run to buy this!” one fan posted.
“It didn’t look like that it was a tiny cocktail pickle - barely there,” added another.
“Had me until you said ranch. I really dislike ranch dressing,” added a third person.
“Just like they make’em in mexico ,” added another.
However, another follower wasn’t so sure.
“Ain't no taco ,” they posted.
“I love pickles. Like, a lot. I thought I was gonna hate it but I did not! I devoured them,” another fan weighed in.
“I love pickles but... ,” added another.
Del Taco was founded in 1964 in Yermo, Calif. with a menu that featured 19 cent tacos and 24 cent cheeseburgers.
The chain currently has 587 locations in the U.S. in Alabama, Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Michigan, Mississippi, Nevada, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Utah, Virginia, and Washington.
Its regular taco offerings include the new carnitas street taco, the classic Del Taco, grilled chicken, beer battered fish, carne asada steak street tacos, ranch crispy chicken, chipotle crispy chicken and snack tacos.
