Paul Finebaum is along for the ride with Bill Belichick and his move to college football. However, Finebaum is not setting the bar high for Belichick’s first year at North Carolina.
During Friday’s broadcast of ESPN’s Get Up, Finebaum was asked to set his expectations for Belichick’s initial season in Chapel Hill. Finebaum admitted those expectations are “very low” for the Tar Heels, despite what Belichick was able to achieve in the NFL as the head coach with the New England Patriots.
“They are very low, for this reason: He doesn’t have a very good team, although he’s in a workable league,” said Finebaum. “I think he can win 7 games, maybe steal one to go 8. But ladies and gentlemen, this is not Deion Sanders coming back to college.”
Belichick will ultimately go down as one of the best head coaches in the history of the NFL, but Finebaum reminded viewers that the backstretch of his tenure in New England did not resemble the one that led to 6 Super Bowl titles. In fact, Finebaum believes there are only a couple of reasons for Belichick’s move, and it has a lot less to do with football on the field.
“It’s not going to be must-see TV… the end of his (NFL) career was a disaster… this is just trying to make good, he’s trying to impress his girlfriend, he’s trying to make some money, and ultimately, I don’t think it’s going to work,” Finebaum delivered.
