POLICE REPORTS

DOG BITE: An officer took a report of a dog bite in the 500 block of Stella Drive after a report was “faxed in from County Animal Control” at 2:42 p.m. July 21.

    THEFT: An officer following up on a theft report in the 500 block of West Mill Street took a report of theft and conspiracy at 2:45 p.m. July 21.

    PEOPLE LEAVING FURNITURE: Caller in the 600 block of North Orchard Avenue at 3:58 p.m. July 21 requested a call from an officer regarding “unknown subjects leaving furniture on the property.” An officer reported calling back and leaving a voicemail when no on answered.

    WOMAN “SMACKED” CAR: Caller in the 1000 block of South State Street requested at 4:27 p.m. July 21 that an officer call them regarding a woman who “smacked” their car. The caller was provided relevant information.

    FIREWORKS: Caller in the 100 block of Low Gap Road reported at 7:02 p.m. July 21 hearing fireworks in the area. An officer responded and reported the incident was not as reported.

    ILLEGAL CAMPING: An officer contacted a person behaving suspiciously in the 400 block of North Orchard Avenue at 3:03 a.m. July 22 and cited and released a 44-year-old man for violating city camping codes. At 3:17 a.m., an officer contacted a person behaving suspiciously in the 200 block of North Orchard Avenue and cited and released a 49-year-old Laytonville man for violating city camping codes. At 3:30 a.m., an officer contacted a person behaving suspiciously at the corner of Waugh Lane and East Gobbi Street and cited and released a 55-year-old Ukiah man for violating city camping codes.

    MAN LOCKED OUT: Caller in the 400 block of Clara Avenue reported at 7:58 a.m. July 22 that “his girlfriend hit him and locked him out of the house.” An officer responded and arrested Megan N. Spain, 32, of Ukiah, on suspicion of domestic violence, possession of drug paraphernalia and violating her probation. She was booked into Mendocino County Jail.

    PEDESTRIAN ALMOST HIT: Caller in the 600 block of Leslie Street reported at 5:47 p.m. July 22 almost being hit by a vehicle while crossing the street. The information was taken.

    EXTORTION: Caller in the 100 block of South State Street reported at 8:20 p.m. July 22 an incident of “possible attempted extortion.” An officer determined the incident was civil, not criminal in nature.

    The following were compiled from reports prepared by the UPD regarding calls handled by the Fort Bragg Police Department.

    SUSPICIOUS JEWELRY: Caller in the 400 block of North Main Street requested at 12:06 p.m. July 22 to speak to an officer regarding suspicious jewelry. An officer responded and took a report of burglary.

    LOOSE BEAR: Caller in the 500 block of East Cypress Street reported at 11:45 p.m. July 22 that a loose bear was in the area. An officer responded and reported that the bear “left upon request.” At 4:40 a.m., a caller again reported a loose bear at that location. An officer provided assistance.

    Those arrested by law enforcement officers are innocent until proven guilty. People reported as having been arrested may contact the Daily Journal once their case has been concluded so the results can be reported. Those who feel the information is in error should contact the appropriate agency. In the case of those arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of an intoxicant, all DUI cases reported by law enforcement agencies are reported by the newspaper.
