Former D-backs shortstop Nick Ahmed announces retirement

Former Arizona Diamondbacks shortstop Nick Ahmed is calling it a career midway through his 12th MLB season after winning two Gold Glove awards during his time in Arizona.

Ahmed’s retirement marks the end of a career for a player that ranks No. 6 on the all-time games played list in D-backs franchise history with 888.

    Known more for his defense, Ahmed was a career .234 hitter with with 726 hits, 364 runs and 339 RBI.

    He slugged 19 home runs and 82 RBIs in the 2019 season.

    His two Gold Gloves were won in 2018 and 2019, while on the D-backs.

    He played with Arizona from 2014-2023.
