The Cleveland Browns may already be looking ahead to next year.
If Colin Cowherd is to be believed, then Shedeur Sanders won’t be in Cleveland’s future plans at quarterback.
Cowherd revealed on his show, The Herd, a potentially massive bombshell if it were to come true. The longtime sports media personality is very well connected inside the NFL and when he puts his name behind something, there is usually fire that comes with his smoke.
How about this for size? Nick Saban coaching Arch Manning on the shores of Lake Erie come next fall. As ridiculous as that sounds now, according to Cowherd, it could soon be a reality.
“This is the worst-kept secret in the South,” Cowherd said. “Haslam, Jimmy, owner of the Browns, huge SEC-Tennessee booster, leans heavily on the Manning family.
“Very close to the Manning family. Yes, that’s not make believe. Arch Manning is part of the Manning family, and this is where Nick Saban comes in.
“Saban is incredibly close to not only Jimmy Haslam, but Saban is close to the Manning family as well. Saban, if he could land, I’m told, a top quarterback like Harbaugh going to the Chargers for Herbert, he would take a phone call for the NFL.
“There are two teams guaranteed to be awful this year in the NFL: Cleveland and the Saints. Nick Saban has coached in Cleveland with the Browns under the Belichick staff, and he’s coached at LSU.
“This is not a conspiracy theory. Haslam’s circle of trust, according to an article in the Athletic last year, is the Manning family, Jimmy Sexton and Bill Parcells. Sexton is Nick Saban’s agent.
“The Mannings are royalty in New Orleans, the children’s hospital in New Orleans is called the Mannings Children’s Hospital, and the Mannings are royalty to Jimmy Haslam.
“Jimmy Haslam also loves headlines. That’s why he pushed to draft Johnny Manziel and Baker Mayfield. They were the most talked about quarterbacks. It’s why he signed a ridiculous guarantee contract for Deshaun Watson, it would get discussed.
“This is not a conspiracy theory. The circle of trust for Haslam is the Manning family and Jimmy Sexton and Saban.
Haslam hasn’t had a true franchise quarterback during his time as ownerGetty Manning is in the running to be the first overall pick next yearGetty“This story is a poorly kept secret. The Mannings, Haslam, Jimmy Sexton, Nick Saban. Saban is not going to college, but he would take a call in the NFL.”
Saban, considered by many to be the greatest college football coach of all-time, retired two years ago. Since then, he has still been very active in the football world, most notably becoming a member of ESPN’s iconic College GameDay.
However, as Cowherd pointed out, he has strong ties to the city of Cleveland. He served as Bill Belichick‘s defensive coordinator from 1991-1994. Returning to the franchise that really helped put him on the map would be a full circle moment.
However, Cleveland’s current head coach Kevin Stefanski is a two-time Coach of the Year. He is no slouch, and has been able to win games with a revolving door at quarterback.
This year, his QB room consists of Sanders, Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett and Dillon Gabriel. It is one of the most intriguing position rooms in the entire league. Sanders will have an opportunity to prove himself and make a a case for the QB1 job, but it’s going to be an uphill battle.
And if the Browns are to be as bad as everyone believes, then they will probably end up with a top-five pick at the very least. That’s when Manning may come into play.

The talented Texas quarterback is projected to be one of the first names called in the 2026 draft. The nephew of Peyton and Eli Manning, the 21-year-old is set to become the next star of the family.
With how close the Manning family and Haslam are with one another, it makes sense to mock Manning to Cleveland next year. The bigger splash would be if Haslam decides to pull the plug on Stefanski and give Saban the keys.
Whether or not Saban is actually interested in returning to coach, at any level, remains to be seen. The 73-year-old looks to be enjoying his various media roles and seems happy in retirement.
But if there is anyone who is up to a new challenge, it’s Saban.
