The world of Netflix's Wednesday seemingly has no bounds, with plenty of potential creative directions the series might take in future seasons.
With viewers looking ahead to the two-part release of Wednesday's second season later this summer, the showrunners behind Wednesday have just confirmed some exciting news.
In addition to a just-announced third season of the show, Netflix is also considering a spinoff series set within the same world as Wednesday.
While details about the spinoff project are being kept tightly under wraps, showrunners Alfred Gough and Miles Millar have hinted that it might follow a beloved character from the original Addams Family lineup.
"It’s something we’re definitely noodling; there are other characters we can look at,” Gough said of a potential spinoff series to Wednesday.
Netflix's chief content officer Bela Bajaria echoed the showrunner's sentiments, teasing, "There’s a lot to explore in the Addams Family.”
The first half of Wednesday's second season officially arrives on Netflix on August 6. Meanwhile, the second half of the series will make its way to the streaming provider a month later on September 3.
As with its initial season, Season 2 of Wednesday will once again take place at the enigmatic Nevermore Academy, following Jenna Ortega's Wednesday Addams as she explores additional mysteries throughout the school.
Alongside Ortega, Wednesday's second season will see the return of several prominent cast members, including fellow Addams Family members Morticia (Catherine Zeta-Jones), Gomez (Luis Guzmán) and Pugsley (Isaac Ordonez) as well as Wednesday's cheery roommate, Enid (Emma Myers).
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Burton and Jenna Ortega admitted they were unsure how many seasons of Wednesday there might be, preferring instead to focus on one project at a time.
"I don’t think that way," said Burton. "You’re talking to two of the worst people to ask that question."
