“New and limited at Trader Joe’s: Black Sesame Mochi,” Natasha captioned her post. “If you’re into nutty, slightly savory desserts that still satisfy your sweet tooth, this one’s for you,” she continued. “The creamy ice cream inside is made with roasted black sesame paste, giving it that rich, almost smoky flavor—wrapped in soft, chewy mochi with the same bold twist.”
Available in a 7.61-ounce package containing six mochi pieces, this sweet and savory treat retails for $4.99. The limited-edition Black Sesame mochi is made by infusing an ice cream base of milk, cream and cane sugar with a paste of roasted, finely ground Black Sesame seeds. This paste gives the mochi a rich gray-black color and presents a nutty, slightly savory flavor that contrasts beautifully with the sweet cream.
Each piece is wrapped in a rice-dough shell infused with Black Sesame seeds, creating a bite-sized treat that’s both intriguingly flavorful and instantly classic. Ideal for a sweet snack any time of day, we recommend letting them sit at room temperature for 3–4 minutes after taking them out of the freezer for the best texture and flavor.
