West suburban grocery store closing after a decade-plus in business

A grocery store that was established more than a decade ago in west suburban Batavia will soon close its doors.

After 16 years, Berkeley Finer Foods, located at Van Buren and Webster streets, has made the “difficult decision” to shut down, the store said in a Facebook post on Thursday.

“We would like to take the time to thank our regular customers who showed support throughout all these years, we’ve had the opportunity to get to know many people personally,” the post read, in part. “We will miss you…”

Berkeley also thanked its employees, saying, “We wouldn’t have been here this long without you. We love our Berkeley family..”

The grocery store has since begun a liquidation sale of certain items.

“We hope to see you in the weeks to come as our last day is July 30,” the Facebook post continued.
