Sabrina Ionescu's triumph in the WNBA All-Star 3-point contest on July 19, 2025, marks a significant milestone in her burgeoning career. Competing against elite players, Ionescu showcased her remarkable shooting prowess by scoring 30 points in the final round. This impressive performance not only secured her victory over defending champion Allisha Gray but also tied for the second-highest score in the history of the competition . Her ability to maintain composure under pressure exemplifies her status as one of the league's premier talents.
Despite not having practiced shooting off the rack in a long time, Ionescu caught fire in the final round, registering a whopping 30 points for the win.
Only Ionescu, though, would be “disappointed” in finishing with what tied the second-highest score ever posted in the WNBA 3-Point Contest.
“I missed a few easy ones there that I definitely could’ve made,” Ionescu said. “So sorry about that. But just happy to be here and obviously happy to have won with my teammate, Natasha Cloud.”
Cloud had been telling Ionescu since they both committed to participating in WNBA All-Star Friday night that they had to sweep the night.
The 2024 WNBA Rookie of the Year, who was selected No. 1 overall by Indiana in the 2024 WNBA Draft, has sparked a new fire for the next generation of young fans.
"It's something that never gets old, truly. To see young girls and even young boys wear your jersey, or want a picture, or want an autograph, that's the reason you do it," Clark said. "You were just that young girl, honestly, a short time ago. For myself, it just puts perspective on everything.
Ionescu wasn't the only Liberty player to take home hardware Friday. In the opening event, teammate Natasha Cloud won the skills challenge, setting up what the duo called a "Liberty Biberty takeover" of the evening.
Cloud recorded the fastest times in both rounds of the competition, clocking 34.1 seconds in the first round and 35.5 seconds in the second. She beat Erica Wheeler by just 1.1 seconds in the final.
In conclusion, Sabrina Ionescu’s victory at the WNBA All-Star Weekend serves not only as a personal accomplishment but also as a testament to her evolving legacy within professional basketball. As she continues to break records and capture titles, it becomes increasingly clear that Ionescu is poised to influence both current and future generations of athletes. Her success reinforces the importance of perseverance and skill development among aspiring players .
