A police officer was speaking with a resident of a Chicago suburb when lightning struck just steps away from where they were standing Wednesday afternoon.
Round Lake police said one of their officers was speaking with a resident in their garage during a non-emergency service call when lighting struck near the base of a tree a few feet outside the open garage door.
The officer’s body camera captured a video of the strike, and the timestamp indicates the incident occurred just after 3 p.m. Wednesday.
The video shows a flash followed almost immediately by a loud boom. A third person is seen running for cover into the garage shortly after the strike.
The Round Lake Police Department shared the body camera video on Facebook on Thursday.
Nobody was injured, police said.
“We’ve all seen our share of lightning strikes in the sky, but it’s not everyday you see one like this!” the police department wrote in their caption.
