TRAVELERS have been given a stern reminder over luggage restrictions, after two airports relaxed the rules on liquids.

The TSA warned passengers that although shoes are no longer required to be taken off during airport security, the restrictions on the amount of liquid you are able to take in your hand luggage remain in place.

“You might get to keep your shoes on these days, but that XL bottle of sunscreen is still a no-go when traveling this summer“, it said, in a post on X.

“Liquids, gels & aerosols must be 3.4 ounces or less in your carry-on bag.”

Passengers must place their small bottles of liquid in one single resealable bag.

Any larger quantities of liquids must be packed in checked luggage.

This comes as two UK airports, Edinburgh and Birmingham, scrapped the 100ml liquid rule, meaning passengers can now take bottles up to two litres in size in their carry on luggage.

The scrapping of this hated rule, which has been in place for 19 years, should speed up security screenings.

Since 2006, US travelers have been forced to take off their shoes during security screenings, so that they can be scanned as well as bags.

At the time, the TSA said that this was due to “intelligence pointing to a continuing threat” of bombs in shoes.

Announcing the scrapping of this rule, U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said on July 8: “Thanks to our cutting-edge technological advancements and multi-layered security approach, we are confident we can implement this change while maintaining the highest security standards.”

The change has taken effect immediately at all US airports.

Noem, believes that scrapping the rule will help cut wait times while at security checkpoints.

She also believes the rule change will help modernize traveler’s experiences.

Noem also revealed how landmark events such as the World Cup and America 250 festivities were also a motive behind the decision.

The new rule has come into force across all airports.

But, Noem warned that some travelers might still have to take their footwear off if they are asked to do so.

Scores of travelers have welcomed the move.

“Sometimes getting the shoes on and off for little ones can take up some time and she doesn’t always want to have her shoes taken off and put back on, so definitely helps getting through the process and get to where we need to go to get on the flight,” Chris Barkley told the Fox affiliate WTXF-TV.
