The Greeley-Evans School District 6 Board of Education has a vacancy for a director seat following the resignation of Taylor Sullivan.
Sullivan, whose term expires in November, became ineligible to serve on the board due to a recent move out of Colorado, according to a District 6 news release.
Per state law, the board will officially declare the vacancy at the Aug. 11 meeting.
The board, however, will likely hold off on appointing someone to temporarily fill the role due to Sullivan’s seat being up for election in Novemeber, the release said. State law does not permit the board to appoint someone to the position if a term is expiring and the election is within 90 days of the vacancy.
This regulation allows the “electoral process to fill the vacancy naturally,” letting voters make the selection rather than “a temporary board decision,” according to the release.
The board has four of seven seats up for election in November. District residents may pick up and circulate nomination petitions starting Aug. 6.
