At least one person was injured when a man drove a sedan into a medical tent at Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center last week.
The driver of the Honda sedan, who was identified as a 33-year old man from San Diego, was arrested at the scene of the July 10 incident on suspicion of driving under the influence. He was transported to a local trauma center after suffering injuries as a result of the collision.
The vehicle first hit a gurney located behind an ambulance, injuring a medic nearby who was then transported to a a trauma center with potentially serious injuries, according to a release from the Chula Vista Police Department.
“The vehicle then continued through the parking lot, into a chain-link fence, which it pushed as it drove into the medical triage tent,” said the statement.
Three people inside the tent also reportedly suffered minor injuries as a result of the incident.
Police say they do not believe it was an intentional act; the investigation is ongoing.
