YORK COUNTY, S.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- Former York County Sheriff Kevin Tolson is facing charges following a car crash over the weekend in Rock Hill.
According to the York County Sheriff’s Office, Tolson was involved in a single-vehicle accident along Airport Road on Sunday, July 13.
Deputies said his vehicle went off the road, slamming into a telephone pole and a fence. But instead of stopping to report the damage, Tolson fled the scene.
The sheriff’s office later identified Tolson as the driver following an investigation. Tolson has now been charged with striking fixtures on or adjacent to a highway and failing to report the incident.
Tolson served as York County’s sheriff until earlier this year. He was succeeded by Tony Breeden, who was sworn in on January 6, 2025. Breeden, a retired law enforcement officer who returned to public service, won the 2024 election after a competitive race.
