A recall effort is underway after bread with an undeclared allergen was sold at Kroger and Walmart stores in a dozen states, including Illinois and Indiana.
The bread, labeled “Lewis Bake Shop Artisan Style ½ Loaf,” was sold at the retailers in at least 12 states, including Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin, according to the FDA.
While the label of the bread does indicate that it may contain tree nuts, the labeling does not indicate that it contains hazelnuts, according to the recall alert.
Approximately 883 loaves of bread in six lots were found to contain visible hazelnuts, triggering the recall.
Hartford Bakery has now issued a recall on the bread, according to the FDA, on the following lot codes and numbers:
