Let’s hear more from the Club’s Board of Directors: Hello, my name is Merlene Saunders and I have been serving on the board of the Boys & Girls Club of Ukiah over the last year and a half. I taught middle school Physical Education for 33 years in the Bay Area. After retiring in 2019 my husband and I moved back to Willits (where I grew up) to take care of my 92-year-old mother.

When I was teaching, I worked and coached many after school activities. I know the importance of the Boys & Girls Clubs…where would our youth go if we didn’t have our Club?  When I had the opportunity to serve on the board I jumped at it, to be involved with our local youth in some way, this was a perfect opportunity. Being on “the team” and working alongside Kay, Kathy, Denise, Julie, and Darla has been amazing. Speaking of amazing …our own Julie Whalen, CEO, who provides leadership to the staff along with being the “go to person” for the club…then there’s our incredible director, Nathaly Hernandez who plans and oversees the programs provided for our youth at BGCU. Julie and Nathaly are very dedicated women, not only to the kids but our community as a whole.

Please consider doing what you can for our Ukiah youth. Your monetary donation in this year’s UDJ drive, donating an auction item for our fundraisers, attending our Golf tournament, are all ways you can help. Thank you!

Be sure to donate to this year’s spring drive by sending your check or money order to Boys and Girls Club, P.O. Box 67, Ukiah, CA 95482.
