Amid At Least 120 Fatalities and 170 Missing, Trump Surveys Devastated Texas

President Donald Trump visited Kerrville, Texas, to assess the catastrophic damage caused by severe flooding that resulted in at least 120 fatalities and left over 170 individuals missing . During his visit, Trump met with local officials and families affected by the disaster. His presence highlighted the administration's commitment to supporting recovery efforts amid ongoing search operations for those unaccounted for . The tragic circumstances prompted discussions about the adequacy of prior warnings and evacuation protocols in place before the flooding occurred.

President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump visited Texas Hill Country on Friday to assess the flood damage that has claimed over 120 lives. During a roundtable in Kerrville with federal, state, and local officials, both expressed condolences for the community's losses, especially the girls who died at Camp Mystic. Trump and Governor Greg Abbott commended first responders for their life-saving efforts. However, Trump criticized  Texas reporter who cited families' concerns about the alert system, calling the question malicious.

The trip comes as he has remained conspicuously quiet about his previous promises to do away with the federal agency in charge of disaster relief.

The Washington Post reported on Friday that the Trump administration has backed away from plans to abolish the Federal Emergency Management Agency (Fema), but administration officials continue to dodge questions about the agency’s future and many are still calling for serious reforms, potentially sending much of its work to the states.

Since the 4 July disaster, which has killed at least 120 people, the president and his top aides have focused on the once-in-a-lifetime nature of what occurred and the human tragedy involved rather than the government-slashing crusade that has been popular with Trump’s core supporters.

Trump expressed the nation's sympathy to victims' families and first responders, emphasizing shared grief and promising federal support for ongoing recovery. He extended the major disaster declaration to include more affected counties, unlocking vital financial assistance for rebuilding."We stand with you during this incredibly challenging time," Trump declared, assuring residents that the full resources of the federal government were at their disposal.

He commended the tireless efforts of local authorities, volunteers, and faith-based organizations, highlighting the spirit of unity and resilience that defined the American character. Trump also addressed concerns about long-term recovery, pledging to work closely with state and local leaders to develop a comprehensive plan that would address infrastructure needs, economic revitalization, and the emotional well-being of the community. "We will not rest until this region is stronger and more prosperous than ever before," he affirmed.
