Mendo LEAP is now offering summer arts and crafts classes where people of all ages can build their very own fairy gardens from scratch.
Mendo LEAP’s summer art offerings include a “Craft & Play” Day Camp for kids 7-12 years old and a “My Big & Me” Crafting Class perfect for partners to join.
The four-day “Craft & Play” Day Camp runs from July 21-24, 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Day Camp is designed for children from 7-12 years old to embark on a multiday crafting project. Each day of the camp will focus on a specific part of the fairy garden:
Day 1: students will craft tiny furniture, fences, and staircases Day 2: sculpting creatures out of clay Day 3: arranging and assembling the garden Day 4: groundcover, landscaping, and finishing touches Evening of Day 4: Students are invited to showcase their creations at a fundraiser for future Mendo LEAP art programming. Light refreshments and play included. The “My Big & Me” class is being held on Aug. 8 from 5:30-8:30 p.m. The class is designed for people of all ages to work together in pairs to create a fairy garden. The original intent was to create an option for preschoolers to participate with their parents, grandparents, or other caretakers, but participants are welcome to come with a friend or partner instead.
Participants in both classes can look forward to lots of fun, hands-on crafting time. Portia will show students how to do everything from making tiny mushrooms out of repurposed corks to sculpting “pets” for your fairies and gnomes. Class fees cover all of the materials, including the fairies and gnomes, tiny houses, and live tiny succulent plants.
