Julie Burkhart is scheduled to speak at 10 a.m. Sunday at the Unitarian Universalist Church service, 929 15th St., Greeley.
Burkhart was named to Time’s 100 Most Influential People of 2025. In 2022, when Wyoming banned abortion, she joined other pro-choice advocates to challenge the ban. That same year, she and others opened the Wellspring Health Access, Wyoming’s only full-service abortion clinic.
However, in February, the governor signed new legislation requiring abortion clinics to be licensed as ambulatory surgical centers. Currently, Wellspring cannot provide abortions. The center is still open and takes phone calls from patients.
Along with her battles in Wyoming, she has faced backlash in states such as Kansas and Oklahoma while trying to start abortion clinics there. Burkhart is the co-owner of Hope Clinic in Illinois, which has seen a 700% increase in out-of-state patients since abortion restrictions went into effect in neighboring states.
