On July 9, the musician explained his reason for seeking office.
"I’m not a politician. I’m a dad, a husband, a businessman, an activist, and the son of a pastor who taught me that faith without action is meaningless," Myers said in a statement on his campaign website.
He continued, "I’ll bring a fresh, strong voice to the Lt. Governor’s office to fight back against the Trump administration, take on the rigged system with commonsense solutions, and ensure every Californian has the opportunity to chase their dreams, can afford to make a living here, and feels safe."
