More than 13,000 additional households have been hit by the two child benefit limit in the past year, with almost half a million families impacted, figures show.
As of April this year, 469,780 households on universal credit were impacted by the cap – which stops parents claiming child-related benefits for more than two children.
The number of households where the cap applied rose by 13,520 (3 per cent) in the past year.
Now, 1,665,540 children living in these households are effected by the welfare policy, an increase of 37,150 (2 per cent).
The rising number of families hit by the welfare cap increases pressure on the Government to act – with many Labour MPs against the policy.
This is a breaking story.
