Ex-Tory chairman Jake Berry defects to Reform UK

Former Tory chairman and close ally of Boris Johnson, Sir Jake Berry, has defected to Reform UK.

Berry lost his seat at the last general election and said “Britain is broken”, partly due to Labour and the successive Conservative governments he was a part of.

The former Conservative chairman joins fellow former Tories who have joined Reform in Lee Anderson, David Jones, Marco Longhi, Anne Marie Morris, Ross Thomson, Aidan Burley and Dame Andrea Jenkyns, now the mayor of Greater Lincolnshire.

“Our streets are completely lawless. Migration is out of control. Taxes are going through the roof.

“And day after day, I hear from people in my community and beyond who say the same thing: ‘This isn’t the Britain I grew up in’,” Berry told The Sun.

“For 25 years, I was proud to call myself a Conservative. Fourteen of those years, I served as an MP.

“I even sat at the Cabinet table twice. I believed in it. I gave it everything. Because I believed politics could still make this country better.

“But let’s not kid ourselves. Britain is broken. It didn’t start with Labour. The Conservative governments I was part of share the blame.”

Berry served as the MP for Rossendale and Darwen from 2010 until 2024, until he lost his seat to Labour.

He served in several position including in the Cabinet Office and was part of the Northern Powerhouse Group.
